Lately uTorrent has become more bloated and tries to slip in more and more advertisements with each new update.I remember it was the most recommended torrent client because of it's lightweight no-nonsense UI. Now the creators have taken the trust of a user base developed around that and decieved them by pushing adware and a bunch of other bullshit into the program.Just recently I had an ad cover my window of currently running torrents which caused uTorrent to hang and crash. It has just gotten ridiculous. The program is no longer what people originally got it for. Is there anything like uTorrent was in its early days?. Is your best bet, is has a similar interface, it has already been around for a while, is cross platform and free and open source. There is, which granted the UI is a little ugly, it is none the less one of the best BT clients out there. There is also, but I don't think private trackers accept it. It is a very minimalistic bt client, which is also cross platform.
Doesn't have that many features as most BT clients, but if you want a simple stable BT client, this is one. Also there is a one man project called, which is supposed to be a light BT client which has that simple uTorrent look. It is pretty new, so it may be buggy and lacks a lot of features of other BT clients, but it does get the job done.Or if you are reluctant to try out something new, you can always downgrade, the most widely downgraded version of uTorrent is arguably, but remember, that version is pretty old and you could possibly be opening yourself up to older bugs and possible security holes. I don't use the built in search, I usually just go to the sites and get the torrent or magnet links. And as for features, qBittorrent has the same features as uTorrent.
It supports proxies, while I know the Windows Transmission port doesn't, labeling, a web UI, it can watch a folder for torrents, which will then be added to the client and the search feature you mentioned earlier. If you really don't need any of these features, I would recommend you stick with Transmission, since I heard the Mac version is pretty good.
Although bittorrent has a reputation for illegally distributing copyrighted content, there is a large, and rapidly growing amount of content in bittorrent that is legally distributable. Much of this is issued under a license which allows you to copy, distribute, advertise and play as long as you give credit to the artist. Some also allow altering for mixes as long as credit is given to the artist. Most of this content is music audio and is from up and coming artists. There are some current movies from independent producers, but most is older movies in the. There is some content from mainstream popular music, mostly live concerts, but a few popular artists have released their content over bittorrent. All of the content at these sites is legal to download and distribute.
I have never heard of a fake or infected torrent at these sites (but I suppose they could exist) and there is no worry about copyright legalities. In addition to these sites, any will index legal torrents. A search for public domain, open source or creative commons will usually bring up a substantial list.
